What Matters More Than Making Money

What matters more than making money is having a system that can continuously create possibilities.

Key Takeaway

  • newtype’s core goal is not making money, but individual sovereign freedom: unlike the vast majority of communities out there teaching people how to make money with AI, the essence of newtype is to help members move from “selling labor” to “owning the means of production,” and achieve true personal sovereignty and long-term freedom through AI.
  • Four actionable steps: ① create works (publish publicly and have a real audience); ② land a first deal (get your first non-salary income directly from the market); ③ build a base (create a personal asset system that does not depend on platforms); ④ let the system spin on its own (form a self-sustaining loop of works, users, and income).
  • newtype is a “training camp for building individual sovereignty”: it is not a short-term monetization or mutual-comfort community, but one that helps members build a sustainable personal production system over the long term, achieving a fundamental shift from consumer to producer.

What are the other communities doing if they’re all making money, and what is the newtype community doing?

I’ve recently figured this out.

With this wave of AI, a bunch of paid communities of all sizes have popped up in China. Among them, the vast majority share a common goal: making money. In other words, they teach people how to make money with AI, such as doing social media, generating ten-thousand-word articles at the click of a button, and so on.

But the newtype community I started is not about making money. I’ve published several videos and articles before, explaining in detail my definition and vision for newtype. To sum it up in one sentence:

Achieving individual sovereign freedom through AI.

AI is the means; individual sovereign freedom is the shared goal of our community. This is the path I’ve taken over the past few years, and it’s the direction I’ll keep moving in. But it is still too grand and too abstract, not concrete enough. For many newcomers, they don’t know what to do.

If we break down “individual sovereign freedom” further into actionable goals, what would they be?

Based on my own experience, I think there are four steps. As long as you complete these four steps, then congratulations: in the AI era, your life will definitely be very different.

Step one, create works.

Everyone should have a public work. Articles, tools, videos, automation scripts, courses, consulting plans, and so on are all fine.

The standard for a work is also very simple: it has a link, it has a byline, it has real readers or users, and it can be shared, saved, and used by others. In short, put it out there so others can know you and find you.

Don’t underestimate “creating works” — this is the first step from “consumer” to “producer.”

Step two, land one deal.

That first landed deal could be that you sold a small product, took on a consulting project, brought in paying users through your content, or delivered a project with the help of AI — any of these count.

This is a very important milestone. Because it means you used your own ability, without going through an employer or boss, to earn your first non-salary income.

Not relying on any organization, and facing the market directly — that is the real beginning of individual sovereignty.

Step three, build a base.

Achieving individual sovereign freedom is a very long road. To keep going, you need a base — that is, you need to build a personal asset system that you own yourself and that can compound and accumulate over time.

This system can include a personal website, a knowledge base, a community, repeatable service workflows, AI workflows, and so on.

The key is: it cannot be tied to a platform. In other words, your things must stay in your own hands. Whether it’s the model or the tool, you can switch them at will, while your system remains.

Step four, let the system spin on its own.

That is, turn works, income, and your base into a cycle that can keep operating by itself.

You publish works, and the works bring in readers and users; you serve users, and their problems become new material and new inspiration. All of these things then accumulate into your base.

By then, you no longer start from zero each time. You are not relying on a flash of inspiration, not relying on a platform suddenly giving you traffic, and not relying on a boss assigning you tasks.

You have your own production system. It will keep helping you generate works, opportunities, relationships, and income.

This is the truly important capability in the AI era: not making a one-time sum of money, but owning a system that can continuously create possibilities.

Looking back at these four goals: creating works is moving from consumer to producer; landing one deal is proving that the market is willing to pay you directly; building a base is constructing, on territory you control, a system of assets that does not depend on platforms; letting the system spin on its own is allowing works, users, products, and income to form a continuous cycle.

Everyone has a different background, different range of abilities, and different preferences. So I don’t want to bullshit people into thinking everyone should do social media or develop products.

The four goals I just talked about are suitable no matter what profession or background you had before.

The focus of newtype is not on opposing anyone, but on building a new self.

The newtype community is not a small circle for mutual comfort; it is a “training camp for building individual sovereignty.”

If you are already taking these four steps, or have already decided to start taking them, then newtype is a very suitable community for you. Welcome to join.

OK, that’s it for this episode. See you next time.
