In the newtype Profile multi-agent orchestration framework, I deliberately paired the main agent (Chief) with a deputy (Deputy). All work is dispatched by the Deputy to the other sub-agents, rather than by the Chief. I did this for a few reasons:

Prevent context explosion. If everything is dispatched and collected by the Chief, the context window is very likely to get blown up. With the Deputy as an intermediate layer, it can summarize and filter things before returning them to the Chief.

Control costs. The Chief can use the best model (for example, Opus 4.5), while the Deputy can use a cheaper one (for example, Sonnet 4.5).

Division of labor. It’s like a CEO and COO. Let the deputy handle the execution work.
